R-550D AOD1 Successfully Completes Jacking Trials
On October 21, 2015, the R-550D AOD1 jack-up rig successfully completed its jacking trials at CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipyard (HPWS) in Guangzhou, China. The rig, which is capable of operating in water depths of up to 400 feet, is the first jack-up rig constructed under the multi-party alliance between rig owner and TSC Group Holdings Limited (TSC) subsidiary, Alliance Offshore Drilling (“AOD”), design firm, ZENTECH, drilling package provider, TSC Group Holdings Limited and shipyard, HPWS.
Over the past two years, TSC has been dedicated to providing a comprehensive total solution package for the jack up rig, which includes a drilling package, electronic control system, jacking system, pipe handling system, cranes, mud systems as well as others. Following the successful jacking trials, the R-550D AOD1 will enter the commissioning phase. Once completed, the platform will go into operation shortly thereafter.
The R-550D AOD1 is a high specification ABS classed mobile offshore jack-up drilling rig tailored to suit most major drilling locations, world-wide. The R-550D AOD1 is compatible with most existing rig footprints but has bigger spud cans and higher leg strengths which provides the rig with superior features to overcome punch-through situations in soft soil conditions. Having bigger spud cans and 54 jacking units of 1,000 kips each enables the rig to operate safely and efficiently in harsh environments. The R-550D AOD1 is also fitted with a 1.5-million pound drilling system, a maximum combined cantilever load of 3,500 kips and an operational variable deck load of 11,000 kips which is far superior compared to most high specification jack-up rigs.
A high level of project management skill has been demonstrated during the R-550D AOD1 construction, from initial designs to product delivery to resource allocation. TSC looks to further enhance its cooperation with HPWS, AOD and Zentech to ensure that the second and third R-550D jack-up rigs remain the most cost competitive and highly efficient jack-ups rigs available in the global market.
